Ambulatory Respiratory Somnogram
An Ambulatory Respiratory Somnogram is a mobile test which can be performed at home or hospital, depending on patient preference. It is used to assess the breathing and cardiac patterns during sleep over one night.
It is used to assess common sleep disorders such as:
- Sleep Apnoea – when an adult regularly stops breathing during sleep for 10 seconds or longer.
- Nocturnal hypoventilation – a reduction in the brain’s respiratory control centre in sending nerve impulses to the breathing muscles.
- Narcolepsy – difficulty in staying awake.
- Unusual night-time behaviours – such as sleepwalking, night terrors or bed-wetting.
- Insomnia – problems sleeping at night.
- Periodic limb movement disorder – uncomfortable cramping sensations in the legs leading to night time wakening.
